Drayton Hall was built in 1742 as a home for plantation owner John Drayton, and the Georgian Palladian home is considered one of the most pristine examples of this architectural style in the United States. Inside the house, careful restoration has been performed on the detailed 19th century plaster ceiling, and visitors can see architectural details normally hidden in furnished homes. Beautiful Victorian gardens and other historic buildings are scattered around the complex, open to public viewing. The historic residence is located outside of the town to the northwest, past the Shadowmoss Plantation Golf Club.
