The Charleston Towne Landing is the original spot where in 1670 the first European settlement in the Americas was founded. Special attractions at this historic site include the "Animal Forest", a zoo that features only animals settlers would have encountered and the "Adventure Ship", a lifesize reproduction of a 17th century trading vessel. The historic site is located in the northern region of the city, near Heathwood and Old Town.
