Known for its beautiful gardens, historic home and family-friendly nature tours, Magnolia Plantation and Gardens offers a truly stunning selection of ways to explore Charleston's past, present and future. Sections within the home's acres of gardens include areas up to 325 years in age, as well as more recent outdoor areas like the Biblical Garden and the Horticultural Maze; children love interacting with the domesticated animals in the zoo, they are species that would have been seen on a plantation in the 1800s. There are four other options for those who visit the plantation: a guided tour of the fully-furnished Plantation House, a tram tour through the natural areas of the plantation, a boat tour of its wetlands and a self-guided walk through the Audubon Swamp Garden. The plantation and its bevy of opportunities is about 14 miles from downtown Charleston, just past the historic Drayton Hall.
Open daily Mar - Oct: 8:00 a.m. - dusk; Nov - Feb: hours vary, call for details.
