The South Carolina Aquarium explores the fascinating aquatic world through eight different areas, each focused on an area of South Carolinian aquatic life. In addition to these primary exhibits on nearby regions, visitors can marvel at the exotic fish and other aquatic critters that live in its ever-changing special exhibit, touch various sea creatures in the Touch Tank and watch all kinds of marine animals swim and interact in the two-story Great Ocean Tank. Overlooking the Charleston Harbor, the aquarium is within easy walking distance of the Fort Sumter visitors center and museum, the site from which ferry tours to the fort itself depart.
